Synopsis: Abigail Conrad is horse lover, horse rider, and horse competition winner. Abby's been training all her life for Arabian Youth Nationals, and she won't let anything keep her from coming in first place. That is, until she meets the handsome older brother of her competition rival. When Chase comes into Abby's life, she'll need to make the choice between letting horseback riding rule her living or letting in someone new that just might change her life forever.

Review: First, a major thank you to Rachel Schieffelbein for sending me an arc galley of Run for the Roses to review! At 80 pages, this book was short, sweet, and absolutely adorable. Set in the world of competitive horseback riding, Abigail meets the swoon-worthy Chase Benson, and of course they fall in love. Not knowing a single thing about horseback riding, I was still able to enjoy this book. Since Run for the Roses is a novella, there wasn't a lot of background information about Abby and Chase. This doesn't really take too much away from the story, for those of you who tend to like reading books with a ton of background information.

The romance between Abby and Chase was endearing. It was a clean, pure YA romance, and the furthest they went was kissing. I loved that Chase was perfect for Abby's competitive and high anxiety personality, and was able to calm her down and be there when she needed him. However, my only problem with the romance was how little Abby and Chase really knew each other. The entire relationship develops over the span of a few days, and after reading this book, I would like to believe that they would take more time to get to know each other. Although Chase did talk to Abby and they felt they knew each other well enough to start a relationship, I really wished that they could have spent a little more time bonding and just hanging out.

Conclusion: Run for the Roses is a clean and well written new YA romance that gives you a look into the high stakes world of competitive writing and love on the riding trails.

  2. Horse lover and rider stories are the cream on my sweets. I enjoy these stories just like the movies which are inspired from them! :)
